The bottom right cartouche has a mileage scale and is framed with images of courtly life. A grid reference borders the map. Moses Pitt (1639–1697) was a London bookseller who also wanted to publish an atlas in 12 volumes. However he failed in the event and ultimately is ruined him financially. He had to atone for his debts with two years in prison. Most of his maps are based on records of Janssonius Visscher and Pitt himself published only one map. "A Description of Places next to the North Pole" Moses Pitt worked from 1654 to 1696 as a cartographer. |
