This is one of the rarest and most sort after maps of New Zealand. It is the Italaian verision of Capitin Cooks circumnavigation of the islands in 1769-1770. This version was published in Rome and shows The Banks Penensulia as a Island and Stewart Island as connected to the South Island. The top right has the title cartouche which shows the European explorers and Idignous Marori. Their ship ‘The Endevour’ is shown in the background. Cooks voyage is shown oin the map with the dotted outline. |
